tested on amd64 with HD 4600, and i386 with 965GM. On both, things works
as without the patch (on amd64/HD 4600 the X server hangs on vmem,
on i386 with accel I see font corruptions - without accel everything
displays fine, but stellarium gives me only 0.15 frames/s :(

So I guess this patch is OK.
