I've never seen an alpha even from afar, but:
- does /usr/X11R6/bin/XFree86 exist?
- if so, does /usr/X11R6/bin/X point to it?
- if so, does X -configure produce something useful?
- if it wrote a config which doesn't work please post whatever it left
  in /var/log/XFree86.0.log

I have both xf86config and xf86cfg on sparc64 but these may be leftovers
from native X builds. Never used them though.

have fun
Michael
