i could lighten it a bit, i actually tried various shades of gray, but as i
said, the orange color then starts to dissolve to the background or the grey
parts of the logo are vanishing.. :/

hey, i didn't choose the colors!  i repeatedly say why i think they are
bad but nobody seems to listen.  i am just trying to save the situation
when we now look like a bunch of amateurs without even a slightest feel
for colors making our users say "yikes!" and turn with disgust in their
faces every time they have to log in using xdm..

i made no changes to the 1bit nor <8bit parts of Xresources, they still
look the same as they did before.
