Speak of the devil, I had just this week found Erik Reide's old patches
from last year lurking on my hard drive, and walked through them to see
what the status of the in-tree code is for the Alpha. Some of his
patches were committed, but the pcigart stuff is still broken.

The needed busdma code is what's really holding it back, I think. I
tried a crash course in busdma last year and failed spectacularly,
mostly due to my not actually being a C programmer. ;^)

I've put his old patches up on
http://www.nwlink.com/~dhop/netbsd-dri.diff.gz for now-- they don't
work against the 4.4 tree, you'll have to comb through it by hand.
Check out a circa-Feb. 2003 xfree from cvs, patch, and you may get
lucky with a 3dfx card.

And by the way, my new Radeon 9200SE works great (sans DRI) with
NetBSD-Alpha as well.
