For the purposes of this thread, assume that 1152x864, 1024
x768 etc. are screen modes and that 100 DPI, 80 DPI etc. are
resolutions.

Is there some way to ask X what resolution it thinks I'm
running in?  Or to tell it what I'm really running?  Some
desktop publishing users have been asking me about X, and it
would be really useful to make sure vector fonts, images and
so on are scaled properly for them.  Does X just assume
everyone's running 100 DPI monitors?

Any guidance would be most welcome.
