1) First get the specs for your graphics card and monitor.  Your
   system docs &/or Windows system info applications should help
   here.

2) Did you install version 3.3.6 of XFree86 as opposed to 4.1
   or 4.2?  (If you've done a stock install 3.3.6 is what you've
   got).  For 3.3.6, install and run the XF86Setup package from
   pkgsrc. In it, pick wsmouse for the mouse setting and /dev/wsmouse 
   (or is it /dev/wsmouse0 ? --- can't recall & I'm away from my
   system right now).  All the other stuff should be pretty clear.
   Say Yes at the end when it asks if it should set up the link for
   X.

That should do it.
