Found it.  My XF86Config has a Wacom Stylus InputDevice defined as we 
occasionally have one attached and in 4.1 and 3.3 it didn't cause a problem to 
have it in the config when it wasn't attached -- seems it does now for 4.2, 
taking it out stops the hang.  I must actually attach the device and see if it 
actually works then.
