Salut, Hubert,

I thought the idea was to get _rid_ of situations where the editor
shreds files? vim, with its lack of error handling, attracts these
magically. Also, there are licensing issues, and there is a "too much
magic" issue in a majority of its functionality. Additionally, undo and
redo cannot be performed arbitrarily since they have an influence on
the undo/redo stack. Moreover, vims scripts have a number of design
problems which promote arbitrary command execution vulnerabilities.

Summing it up, I would be _very_ unhappy to have such a beast in base,
if we have a basically-working solution (nvi). We should only try to
spot and fix the charset problem.
