Um...sure, didn't Henry Spencer show that awk is Turing complete?

But, with an XML'ed /etc/passwd, I gotta use awk instead of grep
if I want to dig out a user's pwent?

The point isn't that "it can't be done," it's that "it's not
commonly done."  And that maybe preserving some common expectations
has a bit of weight, too?
