I think that POLA would be
	- if compiled-in path is absolute, use it; otherwise,
	- if LD_LIBRARY_PATH is present, search it; otherwise,
	- if ld.so.conf is present, use it; otherwise,
	- you built it wrong and are SOL...er, I mean, use a compiler-
	  build-time "sane" default.
