Actually, when I've had lpr make mistakes it's more often been
mistakenly treating (hand-written) PostScript code as text.

lpr really needs something like "-t <type>", where <type> is a short
string like "dvi" or "ps" or "text" or "fortran" or "ditroff". -t and
-T appear to be taken :-(, but it's a long way from running out of
possible option letters, even if you insist on sticking with one-letter
