Hummm... nicely non-portable!

If less/more is going to grok these escape sequences it ought to
send the terminal the correct sequence for the actual terminal.

Not all terminals will handle the ANSI sequences very well.

Also what does 'col -b' do with them?  I've been known to persuade
man to use 'vi' as a pager (I hate less, more and pg for various
reasons).
