You Europeans aren't alone in that.  I've thought it an astonishingly
sensible way to handle things ever since the possibility was first
pointed out to me; indeed, in retrospect I wonder why it had to be
pointed out to me instead of my thinking of it on my own.  (This from
someone who once tried living a six-day week, too.)

Especially since the primary basis for the "week" concept, as far as
I've been able to tell, is the seven days of creation described in
Genesis, which puts the rest days at the _end_ of the week - as does
the very term, at least in English ("weekend") and French ("fin de
semaine" - Québec French, at least).

Not that I don't have other issues about that, but that rant is way
off-topic for tech-userlevel. :-)
