No, it was not.

FWIW, I actually did check the differencies. Besides the NFS
examples and tiny bits in amiga and atari fstabs, they
were basically identical.

IMHO sample configurations like this belong under /usr/share/examples/.
I ~always wondered what the installed /etc/fstab.{sd,wd} were for.
