Sure, in the same way that I could use 'ls -ld .' to find a username,
followed by a 'ls -dnl .' to find the numeric UID, compared to using
grep and/or awk.

In short, yeah, it works, but there are nicer ways to be able to do this,
i.e. 'vi -t tag'.
