Subject: link(1) - when did it disappear?

I must confess I have never seen it in NetBSD, but my Sys V Rel 3.1 system
and all Sys Vs I've come across since included link(1) for the superuser to
create hard links to directories.

I know that symbolic links are preferred, but they won't work (if I understand
this correctly) for distinct, remote-mounted rootfs's, and hard linking each
file seems an absurd waste of i-nodes.

I can write a special purpose program, or alter the existing ln(1) to accept
an argv[0] of "link" and do the right think, if no-one can recommend an
alternative.

But opinions (and arguments :-) are welcome.
