I think having a sample/basic application for every feature ('driver')
is a good idea.

They serve as handy example code for interfacing, and they fill
the need for a basic program with expected NetBSD command-line
interface semantics and.

Regarding audio, I think both a simple sound player (.wav, au., etc.)
and a simple .mid player should be in the tree.

At least in these two cases, I don't know of any small, clean
programs for either task. '> /dev/audio' doesn't really cut it.
