Hi PPC users!

I want to tell you that the problem is solved! Gcc 4.5.3 was innocent and
generates really good code compared to 4.1.3. I was misguided by the
observation that V4.1 hides a bug in altboot much better than V4.5 does.

The cause of all the troubles and horror stories was, that the bootloader's
startup code didn't disable interrupts in the MSR.
