Which is exactly what we have today for the case that you define
DEFSHELL_CUSTOM no ?
Eg. on systems that have it (eg. SunOS) bmake's configure sets
DEFSHELL_CUSTOM to /usr/xpg4/bin/sh by default, and everything "just works".
