I've just updated my main sgimips box to a kernel/userland compiled with 3.3.3.

After ten minutes of moderate load (compiling perl from pkgsrc), it panic()ed.
(as the machine is at home, I can't determine the precise panic right now --
it has a glass console).

Just anecdotal evidence that might indicate that -O2 has problems as well,
