Uh, no.  You'd have to set NOPIC in only src/gnu/usr.bin/egcs to get this to
work, not LDSTATIC, because you still want shared libc.

However, if you compare sizes on a vax, you may find that the savings are
minimal, as f771 doesn't use much of the lib, and cc1plus only uses about
60% of it.  `I'd like to know,' really...
