My MP systems have been quite solid lately, especially after the
scheduler race condition fix (which went in after you updated
by the looks of it, so update sys/arch/i386 again to be sure).

I'd try one more or of these items:

	* disable APM
	* add LOCKDEBUG (a complete hangup could be an endless spinlock
	  acquire attempt)
	* try a plain GENERIC.MP
