Sigh.  There I go posting too fast again.

I meant to say "Consider, for example, a router".  I started to type in
"access concentrator" (since that's one common case in which a router
is unfortunately configured like this) but decided that "router" was
simpler -- and then ended up with unreadable mush.  Perhaps this
correction will make my meaning more clear. ;-)
