The moral here is "keep it simple."  It's the easiest to way for easy retarget.
More SoC grow more products get similar each other, mostly identical
in key aspects besides marginal peripherals.  Pragmatic approach is to
conceal all the mismatches and differences in initppc() of xxx_machdep.c
and to forget the temptation to make twist and hack around MI code.
