tar: Can't translate pathname 'xxx' to UTF-8

Hello,
trying building wip/kicad (updated to 10.0.6) I hit:
tar: ./kicad-10.0.6/resources/bitmaps_png/sources/light/export_module копия.svg: Can't translate pathname './kicad-10.0.6/resources/bitmaps_png/sources/light/export_module копия.svg' to UTF-8                                                 
tar: ./kicad-10.0.6/resources/bitmaps_png/sources/dark/export_module копия.svg: Can't translate pathname './kicad-10.0.6/resources/bitmaps_png/sources/dark/export_module копия.svg' to UTF-8                                                   
tar: ./kicad-10.0.6/qa/data/pcbnew/plugins/easyeda/PCB_USBMETER-PD QC修改版_2023-09-02.json: Can't translate pathname './kicad-10.0.6/qa/data/pcbnew/plugins/easyeda/PCB_USBMETER-PD QC修改版_2023-09-02.json' to UTF-8    


I think I've seen comments about a similar issue before. What would be
the correct way to fix this ?
