I don't generally get involved in pkgsrc related issues these days,
but isn't this exactly what pkgtools/libkver is designed to deal with?

I know, back in the day (like around NetBSD 5 time) I used to use it all
the time - you need a newer kernel than the one you want to emulate, and
it needs all the relevant COMPAT_* included in it (modules didn't exist
back then, but I assume having those as modules, or built in, would be OK).

If it no longer works, it should be fairly easy to fix, surely?
