Can we stop revbumping the world please?
Due to the recent two(!) icu revbumps, I have to rebuild almost every
package on my machine now, which will probably take about a week (as
it's a slow ARM64). Meanwhile, to put things into perspective, I have a
*single* package actually depending on icu installed. I am now
rebuilding hundreds and hundreds of packages on an slow machine when all
that would actually need to be rebuilt is a single package.
I've also noticed that many of the packages I maintain get revbumped
frequently, for completely unrelated packages (not just icu). Can we
please stop saying "Oh, I updated some library, let me revbump every
single package in the tree"? It doesn't scale (we can't rebuild every
single package in pkgsrc every time a library updates). It doesn't make
sense. It wastes time, energy and space. It's literally destroying the
planet for no reason.
Thanks,
Jonathan
