Fully agreed. I expect that pkgsrc provides packages that don't contain obvious, easy to avoid bugs. A recent example is print/dvipdfmx, which contained an unresolved @GS@ placeholder in bin/dvipdft for at least the last 5 years because only @RUNGS@ was substituted. That's so easy to detect and avoid that it shouldn't go unnoticed.
