Wikipedia's Polkit article starts with

"Polkit (formerly PolicyKit) is ..." and later "Since version
0.105,[2] the name of the project was changed from PolicyKit to polkit
to emphasize that the system component was rewritten[3] and that the
API was changed, breaking backward compatibility" though the last part
is marked as dubious.

So it sounds like polkit is the successor to policykit.

It seems to be used for sudo-in-GUI, what other tool(kit) should be
used for that in your opinion?
