   So my proposal (#1 above) is that devel/cunit gain five options via a
   new devel/cunit/options.mk file:

   cunit-automated
   cunit-basic
   cunit-console
   cunit-memtrace
   curses

Can any of these features be built separately after the fact?  If so,
it would be better to provide additional packages that can be combined
with devel/cunit to get the functionality you want.  Otherwise, the
options you described sound reasonable to me.
