Perl's $^X variable (was: Perl shebang version mismatch)

OK, I've tracked this down to Perl's $^X being /usr/pkg/bin/perl5.18.2 
(and not simply perl), even if I explicitly do
        /usr/pkg/bin/perl -e 'print "$^X\n";'
Does anyone else see this?
I've built lang/perl from pkgsrc-2014Q1 on 6.1/amd64.
