Why is python a dependency of gtk2?

Hi,

because python didn't compile on AIX I checked whether x11/gtk2 really
requires python.
Answer: No. It compiles and runs fine without. My intension is to get
a running editors/vim-gtk2
on each of our development platforms (and leave it in a way, the
customer can use even when
I'm gone).

Why it is a default dependency which can't be turned off?
