cygwin is utterly broken. It has a lot of magic name translation going
on that break assumptions of software, it is slow as hell and a
nightmare from the porting perspective. The namespace issues are a *lot*
worse than case agnostic filesystems like OS X, e.g. removal of trailing
periods etc.
