It turns out that "xchat" doesn't work:

tron@excalibur:~>xchat

(xchat:26738): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_window_get_geometry: assertion `GDK_IS_WINDOW (window)' failed

I guess I'll stick to the X11 version of GTK+.
