This patch (along with the patch in your other message) fixes x11/py- 
gtk2 installation on OS X 10.4.3, which gets my in-progress package  
of GNU Solfege mostly working. If it proves to work fine on other  
platforms too, I'd like to see it pulled up to the branch.
