I have been working on packages for libXft2, libXrender, libXrandr,
libXcursor, libXfixes and related using source code from the modular X.org
project. I have been doing this in pkgsrc-wip.

These are updates to the packages we already have in pkgsrc. In some
cases, I have been using different package names. I chose to use the name
of the download tarball (DISTNAME) for the PKGNAME which seems to make
more sense.

Most of the packages we have from the xlibs project have become
deprecated. They are out of date and no longer maintained there.

The modular X.org is at release candidate 2. There is expected to be one
more release candidate and the official release in December.

The modular X.org uses symlinks to grab all source code from the
"monolithic" normal xc source tree ("make World") but adds autoconf style
./configure scripts and uses pkg-config.

This is just like the xlibs versions, but using source that is maintained.

To test some of this, I have created a X11_TYPE=modular-x11. But my main
problem now is that many packages are referencing the old unmaintained
xlibs versions as we have in pkgsrc that conflict with the new versions
(in pkgsrc-wip).

Anyways, this is just an email to tell you some about my work on this.

When December comes around and these source downloads are officially
released, I hope to some updates. I will talk to maintainers for packages
that have maintainers.

Do you mind if I import using the new directory and package
names at that time?

Any comments? Suggestions? Volunteers to help?
