OK here is one example of what happens: I booted the system and Sylpheed (a GTK
application) would not start, i.e. no matter what I did it would die with SEGV,
generating a core file. After the reboot it was working fine.

Next time I rebooted, the Xfce4 window manager died in a similar way

As I said previously, I ran memtest86 for several hours, it didn't find any
problems.

The machine is running NetBSD-3.0_BETA, everything was working fine, until I
upgradded all my applications to the latest versions from pkgsrc.
