I thought that it is recommended to use the pkgsrc stable branch
(otherwise, what it would be for?)

But, the pkgsrc home page doesn't mention the stable branch anywhere else
than in the News section. This link:
http://www.netbsd.org/Documentation/software/packages.html#bootstrap
does recommend downloading the latest tarball. And I can't found
pkgsrc-2005Q2.tar.gz anywhere on FTP.

A stable branch is a good idea, but maybe needs some more evangelism?
