It is Linux x86 and I am sure that I am using bmake:
/usr/bin/make -> /usr/pkg/bin/bmake
Usage: bmake [-Beiknqrst] [-D variable] [-d flags] [-f makefile ]
[-I directory] [-j max_jobs] [-m directory] [-V variable]
[variable=value] [target ...]
As you can see there is no -C switch
