It should (and it seems to work on my system):

$ make X11_TYPE=xorg show-var VARNAME=PLIST_SRC
/usr/pkgsrc/x11/xorg-libs/PLIST.NetBSD /usr/pkgsrc/x11/xorg-libs/PLIST.NetBSD.i386 /usr/pkgsrc/x11/xorg-libs/PLIST.common /usr/pkgsrc/x11/xorg-libs/PLIST.common_i18n /usr/pkgsrc/x11/xorg-libs/PLIST.common_end
$

Do you have pkgsrc/mk updated?
