It occurred to me that Hubert Feyrer wrote in gmane.os.netbsd.devel.packages:

On the other hand - we're hardly very consequent about this. GStreamer lives
in multimedia/, but it's plugins live in audio/, graphics/, multimedia/ and 
sysutils/.
