Another idea that should work for you is to set

DEPENDS_TARGET=install clean  # or package clean

(This could be in your pkgsrc mk.conf file.)

Or use find for your work (WRKDIR) in combination of the -mtime or -mmin
(or other) flags to find extra old work directories to remove manually.
