Take a look at https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3D246313 --
I've found that setting XRE_IMPORT_PROFILES=3D1 was necessary for firefox
version 0.10. (0.10.1 doesn't need this, AFAICT)

Interestingly enough, though, you only need to do this once, when you
run firefox the first time. After that, you can 'xhost -' and it will
start as usual. It seems to be just the dialog that tries to import
profiles that causes this problem.
Another issue _I_ see with firefox is that it complains about the
default extensions files not being set up correctly. If you run firefox
as root once, it will set up the extensions, but I found that subsequent
invocations of firefox as a user can crash the OS -- yikes.
So I go without extensions -- not that I have any idea what they're good
for anyway, but some of my users would like to use them.
Time is an illusion, lunchtime doubly so.
