Ah, I thought I tried that, but I forgot to copy make over from my
DESTDIR, so I was still running the version with var.c 1.87.

Also noticed there's a thread on tech-pkg about it... I forgot that
I'm not subscribed to tech-pkg :) Sorry for the redundancy.
