Last I looked gcc on solaris only supported creating 32bit binaries (but this
may have changed). That's why gcc always seemed to work on Solaris but
loose on NetBSD/sparc64 ;-}

Using the Sun compilers though it should be possible, by just tweaking 
/etc/mk.conf.
