I first read the pkgviews PDF probably over a year ago. (And before that I
have read webpages about depot or link-based package systems. I even wrote
a very simple package system using a depot-like system in around 1998 and
1999 which I used on a few BSD/OS and Debian Linux boxes.)

pkgviews sounds interesting and I would be interested in testing and
trying it. (I also thought it was mostly already in place, but I never had
the time to try it.)

I was under the impression that it would be optional.
