I don't think it should assume /etc/mail (especially if someone wants to
have different versions of sendmail installed for testing).
You may want to consider setting PKG_SYSCONFSUBDIR and PKG_SYSCONFVAR too.
To answer your earlier question, yes, please consider providing some fixes
for the sendmail package.
I'll be glad to test for you (under Linux too).
