I deleted pcre completely (pkg_delete gave me a few errors, something 
like "error, pcre not really installed" eventhough pkg_info showed it
to 
be installed. I wish I could have copied the errors before they
scrolled 
past but oh well..) and then tried building the postfix package.
Everything works now, sorry about the false alarm.
