No. Please. Not.

Would you have /usr/local/var? /usr/X11R6/var? /usr/pkg/inn/var? Mount a
separate partition under each of these?

'/var/pkg' exists, if you feel you need to separate pkg software owned data
from that of other applications. Personally, I am perfectly happy with a
/var for all  "multi-purpose log, temporary, transient, and spool files",
as hier(7) puts it, since this is a _global_ place for reansient data.
