No /etc/mk.conf. This is a brand-new 1.5.2 i386 install (via ISO from
ftp.netbsd.org).

Then I grabbed the pkgsrc.tar.gz from ftp site yesterday. (I think it was
dated Mar. 9.)

Only "cvs" package is installed.

I will update pkgsrc and try again.

Yes, I agree that should be automatic with bin-update.
